  • Recently... Fairground at Melbourne Fringe Festival 2024

    Fairground is a collaboratively devised musical by the teen cohort at Dramawerkz Theare Inc, written and directed by Mia Boonen. This work was programmed at Melbourne Fringe Festival and performed at Louis Joel Arts and Community Centre in October of 2024.

  • Recently... The Rehaunt

    The Rehaunt is a 6 month long project taking place in the old site of the Altona Hospital. Funded by Hobsons Bay City Council and led by Mia Boonen and Dramawerkz's lead artists, this workshop series addresses the stories and ghosts of the old hospital, and opens the door for new stories to be told here too.

    Peacemongers by The People was an exploration of utopia, a dinner theatre documentary-style musical where 5 people figured out what you do with the people you disagree with. This work was presented at Darebin Arts Centre as part of their 2024 Speakeasy programming

Bio.

Mia Boonen (she/her/they) is a theatre-maker, advocate and educator born and raised in the western suburbs of Naarm. With a practice led by access and community, she is the CEO of Dramawerkz Theatre Inc. and has a degree in Fine Arts (Theatre) from the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) and is pursuing a Masters degree in Counselling at Monash University. Mia splits her time between creating art and facilitating workshops across various NFP organisations and local councils, with a strong focus on youth co-design, disability rights and how creativity can support positive mental health outcomes. In 2023, Mia was named Hobsons Bay’s Young Citizen of the year.
